Refrigerator not cooling: What to do?

Imagine you have just returned home after struggling in warm climate and are desperate to cool yourself by having some cool water or cold drink, or shakes and you find out that your refrigerator not cooling. Don’t panic there must be some problem with your appliance which needs to be fixed. Now if you are the one who has to deal with this problem then first analyse it. Find, whether the problem is short or long term. If the problem is short then you can try to fix it, but if the problem is a big one then you have to call repair person. Here are some points that you must check before calling a repair person in refrigerator not cooling cases:

If light of the refrigerator is on, then power is going to the refrigerator. If it doesn’t, review the circuit breaker because rarely a power surge can flip a breaker and can cause refrigerator not cooling.

• Check the settings of refrigerator. A number of times, the reason for refrigerator not cooling is just a switch of fridge which is disturbed. So, change the settings to cold and wait, observe its cooling.
• You can check the fan (helps in circulating the chilled air) of the refrigerator is running or not. 
• Other good way to check if you can feel or see gas (in the form of vapor) coming out from the compressor outlet pipe.
• Go through the back of the refrigerator. Is it warm or not? Because rear of the refrigerator circulates most of the cooling functions. If the back of refrigerator is warm then this means that refrigerator is cooling.

If all of the above points are checked and still your refrigerator not cooling, then don’t waste time and call a technician who is well qualified in repairing gadgets. You can also take the suggestions from your family members or friends but call the technician as fast as possible. Remember one thing; most of the companies take a few hours in sending their technicians. Meanwhile you can take help of your friend or neighbour to keep your stuff refrigerated.

• Keep refrigerator door close to save the unit from having to work hard and helps to keep the items cool.
• Don’t put hot food items direct in the refrigerator. First make the food to cool to the room temperature then keep it. To replace the warmer air to cooler air normally hot foods make the compressor work hard.
• Refrigerator’s temperature should be low.
• Check, are there any cracks or splits on the rubber seal on the door.

Cracks or splits can damage the door seal and can make the compressor work hard.

Next time when you observe your refrigerator not cooling, try remembering when the last service was done.  As it’s pretty obvious that, the more you care and maintain, the more your appliance will survive and will keep you cool!!!
